Vrsooc VOLTAGE REGULATOR PERFORMANCE TEST Connect a volt meter across the batterv . Check regulator performa nce with the engine running. The regulator must divert current to ground when battery voltage reaches 14.0 - 16.0 V.

IGNITION SYSTEM VTSOOC IG N ITIO N COIL R EMOVAL
Remove the seat and fuel tarnk and disconnect the ignition coil wire leads.
Remove the coils by removi ng the attaching bolts.
CONTINUITY TEST
Measure the primary coil resiS1ance.
RESISTANCE: 2 0 ohms
Measure the secondary coil resistance with the spark plug caps in place.
RESISTANCE: 29-40 k ohms
Remove the spark plug caps and measure the secondary coil resistance.
R ESI STANCE: 20.6-27.4 k ohms
TRANSISTORIZED IGNITION SYSTEM PULSE GENERATOR TEST
Remove the seat and fuel tank. Disconne(:t the pulse generator coupler and measure the coil resistance.
RESI STANCE: 480 ohms ± 10%
Between white and yellow leads (for No. 1 cylinder) - Between white and bl ue leads (for No. 2 cylinder)
PULSE GENERATOR R EPLACEMENT
Remove the right cran kcase cover (section 7). Disconnect the pulse generator wire coupler. Remove the pu lse generator mount bolts and wire clamp. R emove the pulse generators.
IGNITION SYSTEM H ONDA VTSOOC Route the pulse generator wires as shown. I nstall the wire clamp and tighten the mounting bolts.
Rotate the crankshah and check the pulse rotor air gap,
AIR GAP:0.3-0.9 mm (0.012-0.035 i n)
Rei nstall the right crankcase cover.

If the pulse generator, ign ition coil and wiring are i n good condition but the ignition timing is not within specification; replace the spark uni t with a new one and recheck the ignition timing.
Remove the seat. Remove the battery (page 18-3). Disconnect the soark unit coupler and reolace the spark unit.
Reinstall the removed parts.

STARTER MOTOR REMOVAL
Drain the coolant ( page 6-3).
Remowe the rear cylinder exhaust pipe (page 5-6). Remove the right water pipe (page 11-3). Disconnect the starter motor cable and remove the mounting bolt and starter motor.
